Business Expansion Reports

Our quarterly Business Expansion Report highlights business startups and expansions at various stages of development from Minnesota firms statewide. 

We make these data available to various economic development publications, including Site Selection magazine. Each year, based on voluntary reporting, Site Selection ranks states on a number of factors relating to economic development. Minnesota consistently ranks highly in many categories of this prominent annual survey.

Highlights from the second quarter of 2014 include:

  • Eleven of the projects were in Greater Minnesota, including Capital Safety in Red Wing and Jostens in Owatonna. Both companies plan to add 100 jobs in those communities. 
  • Fifteen of the 22 projects were in manufacturing.
  • Four projects were announced by professional services firms.
  • Three of the projects involved investments by foreign firms: China-based WuXi AppTec, Canada-based Edmonton Trailer and Germany-based Wurth Adams Nut & Bolt.

Information Gathering Sources
Business activity is researched using a variety of sources including metro and regional newspapers, business and real estate journals, construction company newsletters, Internet research and staff referrals. DEED and/or JOBZ Initiative involvement is not a project measure to qualify for admission into the report.

Online Minnesota Business Expansion Report Form

Businesses exploring Minnesota for new locations routinely inquire about current economic development.  Listings of companies who have recently built new facilities or expanded existing ones verify a healthy economy in our state.  The MN Business Expansion Report provides this information and so offers state and local economic development officials real evidence of business activity within Minnesota.
