The Petrofund reimburses tank owners, operators, and other eligible applicants for a large portion of their costs to investigate and clean up contamination from leaking petroleum storage tanks. The Petrofund also removes abandoned underground petroleum storage tanks. This is just one service, among many, that the Minnesota Department of Commerce provides to support Minnesota's petroleum marketplace.
Since 1911, the Minnesota Department of Commerce has provided a valuable service to petroleum marketers in our state. At that time, there were only 25 retail fuel dispensers to inspect statewide.
Over the last 100 years, the market has changed dramatically, and our service to businesses like yours has changed to meet those demands. We pride ourselves on maintaining equity in the marketplace through unbiased application of standards. Consumers and businesses alike can be assured that we apply the same standards to everyone; we don’t play favorites.
Inspecting gas meters, testing fuel quality, checking grocery scales and packaging, overseeing propane inspectors, and helping tank owners pay for environmental cleanup projects, our professional staff have devoted their careers to making our state a great place to do business. We encourage you to learn more about the services we provide and call on us when you have questions or need assistance.
