Rep. Atkins, Sen. Metzen, Commissioner Rothman to Hold Town Hall on Financial Issues for Minnesota Seniors

April 25, 2013

For Immediate Release:

SAINT PAUL, MN — State Representative Joe Atkins (DFL – Inver Grove Heights), Senator Jim Metzen (DFL – Inver Grover Heights) and Mike Rothman, Commissioner of the Department of Commerce, will hold a town hall to discuss financial issues for Minnesota seniors on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 AM. The town hall meeting will be held in Community Room 1 of the Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights (8055 Barbara Ave, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077).

Legislators and Commissioner Rothman will provide seniors with a legislative update and discussion surrounding senior financial literacy issues — including scams and frauds that target Minnesota seniors. April is Financial Literacy Month across Minnesota.

“Senior protection for fraud and scams is even more critical as every day in Minnesota, more Baby Boomers hit retirement age,” said Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman.  “Senior citizens hold nearly 70 percent of the nation’s wealth and crooks know it.  This is the time to gain financial education to help protect our parents and grandparents from falling victim to scams and fraud.”
