REDWOOD FALLS, MN – The Minnesota Department of Commerce returns to Farmfest this year, with more information relevant to rural Minnesota economies than ever before. • Propane – The Minnesota Department of Commerce provides tips for consumers who use propane to heat their homes and businesses on how to budget and prepare for winter. The Department also provides information on the Energy Assistance Program for consumers who meet certain income requirements.
  • Weights and Measures – This year, staff from Weights and Measures will be on hand to answer questions on biodiesel requirements to “Be Ready for B10.” The Minnesota Department of Commerce – Weights and Measures Division helps ensure accuracy and fairness in Minnesota’s rural marketplace from grain elevators to grocery stores and gas stations.

  • Energy – The Minnesota Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources can help farmers capture savings from energy efficiency improvements on their farms – from employing renewable energy sources, to home energy efficiency techniques and information regarding biomass and bioenergy, to farm energy audits, the Commerce Department is here to help.
  • Consumer Response Team – The Minnesota Department of Commerce’s Consumer Response Team (CRT) is here to help Minnesotans sort through their insurance questions and complaints during a time of crisis or for every day issues regarding insurance.

The Commerce Department is here to help farmers and Minnesota’s agriculture sector on a wide range of topics -- propane, energy, biofuels, and consumer issues,” said Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman. “It’s a great opportunity to get out to Farmfest to speak with Minnesotans one-on-one about all of the ways the Department’s work supports economic growth in Minnesota’s rural economies as well as the services we provide to consumers across the state.”

Commissioner Rothman will visit Farmfest on Wednesday, August 6 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. Rothman will meet with agriculture-related media outlets, visit several exhibits, and will also be on hand to talk with people who visit the Commerce booth.
