The University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project Team is racing its #35 Centaurus III in this year’s 2014 Solar American Challenge, which concludes at the U of M.

Solar-powered car race to finish July 28 at University of Minnesota

Goldy Gopher, alumni, sponsors, and other supporters are welcome on Monday, July 28 to cheer the University of Minnesota’s solar-powered car across the finish line in the 2014 American Solar Challenge. #35 Centaurus III, the U of M’s representative in the 24-car field, is expected to cross the finish line between noon and 4 p.m. at the Victory Lot at the University’s East Bank Campus (2302 6th St. SE in Minneapolis). The car is the creation of the U of M Solar Vehicle Project Team and features a newly revamped electrical system, improved aerodynamics, and new safety features. It is slightly over 3 feet tall, about 16 feet long, nearly 6 feet wide, and weighs about 400 pounds. The 1,700-mile race began in Austin, Texas, on July 21.
